Bringing back a concept that started in October 2011 by the White Restaurant Group, ‘Sembawang Prawn Noodles’ has been given a new lease of life with the opening of this prawn noodle and Lok Lok concept restaurant that is nestled within the shophouses along Upper Thomson Road.

From left to right: Signature Fei Lou Noodles, Variety of Lok Lok

‘Fei Lou Fatt,’ which translates to ‘prosperous old man’ in Cantonese is located at Springleaf MRT Station on the Thomson-East Line and is the spot to go for real prawn noodles with an umami-rich broth after hiking with family and friends.

Embodying the less is more spirit, the Fei Lou Fatt Menu features simple options to choose from jumbo ang kar prawns, vanamei prawns and even braised pork ribs that were well marinated and fall off the soft bone tender.

Fei Lou Fatt Menu

With a sweet and savoury prawn broth that is slow cooked for up to 10 hours daily, you can surely expect to taste the flavours of the sea. Available in soup or dry options, choose from 4 noodle types of beehoon, thick beehoon, kway teow or yellow noodle.

When you first visit, you should definitely give their Signature Fei Lou Noodle ($20) a taste. Fresh giant ang kar prawns, fork-tender braised pork ribs, and 12-head abalones are served in a bowl of savory, umami-rich prawn soup.

Signature Fei Lou Noodle

If you like your prawn noodle dry, opt for the dry version and amp it up with their handmade hae bee hiam volcanic chilli that is a unique spicy rendition with huge pieces of hae bee that were crispy and delightful.

For something a bit less heavy on the wallet, the Big Prawn Noodle ($16), Prawn Noodle (Small: $8, Big: $11), Prawn and Braised Pork Ribs Noodle (Small: $8, Big: $11), and Braised Pork Ribs Noodle (Small: $8, Big: $11) are among the prawn noodle options available as well.

Big Prawn-zuke

For those who prefer rice soup or a rendition of the popular ‘pao fan’, the Big Prawn-zuke ($16) comes with aromatic fluffy Japanese rice, big succulent ang kar prawns, and a crunchy handmade fried rice cracker for texture.

Served alongside a cute kettle that contains their slurp-worthy prawn broth, its best to taste their original soup on its own before adding it to your rice for a different depth of flavour.

Apart from the main courses, there are over 20 different varieties of Lok Lok to choose from to complement your meal. With a price range of $1.20 (blue), $1.50 (green) and $3 sticks (red) to choose from, the trays are colour coded at the counter for reference.

For the best lok lok experience, season your lok lok with your favourite flavouring (Sze Chuan Mala, Seaweed, BBQ, Furikake). Do note that there will be an additional $1.20 top if you choose the Furikake option.

Out of all the flavourings available, the one we highly recommend is definitely the Seaweed. Reminiscent of the Seaweed Shaker seasoning from McDonalds, the seaweed seasoning added a nice and savoury experience on all the foods we chose.

Be further spoilt for choice with their different sauces available such as Mayonaise, Thai Sweet Chilli and Thai Seafood Green Chilli that lets you customize and enjoy the food to your hearts content.

With so much to offer, ‘Fei Lou Fatt’ adds on to the unique and dynamic food scene in Singapore and you should definitely give them a try when you are in the vicinity. For more information, check out their Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates.
