Home-cooked food delivery services have seen an increasing popularity in recent times. This has largely been due to the circumstances of the 1st phase of the Circuit Breaker during which people had to remain at home and eating out was not allowed.
With today’s hectic work lifestyle, there are many people who have had very little time to enjoy food that has been cooked in the comforts of their home and miss the taste of a warm home-cooked meal.
Besides the usual affair of food selections available in our local restaurants and hawker centres, home-cooked food deliveries offer an interesting experience to customers who seek something different, and a taste of unique family recipes that are not usually found in outside eateries.
林食(or Linshi) has its influences from Taiwanese cuisine with unique family recipes from the mother of the Lim family who originated from Changhua city, Taiwan. Linshi therefore promises its customers a plethora of delicious dishes not often seen in Singapore.
One of the main dishes offered by Linshi right now is the Hakka-style braised pork with yam, served with chinese lettuce which has been well received by customers. Unlike “梅菜扣肉” (Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables) which is the most common version of the Chinese braised pork dish in Singapore, this version is prepared very differently.
Large chunks of pork belly are fried on the skin to give it texture and then marinated in a special blend of fermented tofu, “shaoxing” wine, dark soy sauce and cinnamon. Slices of yam are also deep fried and assembled together with the chunks of pork belly in a bowl full of the marinade, and then steamed under charcoal fire for 4 hours. The end result is a fragrant, savoury and tender pork and yam dish.
Unique to the Lim family’s style of eating this dish, each order comes paired with Chinese Lettuce leaves. Just like how one would pair a slice of pork with lettuce at a Korean BBQ, one can wrap a slice of pork and yam with a lettuce leaf, and dip the wrap in the braised marinade for a delightful crunch packed with flavour in each bite that will leave you craving for more.
Linshi has two offerings of the Hakka-style braised pork with yam. The Small Bowl ($25) consists of 6 thick slices of pork and yam each while the Large Bowl ($35) has twice the quantity with 12 slices of pork and yam. Self-collection is available while delivery is at an additional $7.
Being new to the food scene, Linshi currently sells 1 dish but is looking at expanding its selections to customers while staying true to offering dishes made from the Lim family’s unique home recipes. Some of the dishes that customers may look forward to include “卤肉饭“ (Taiwanese Pork Rice Bowl), “台湾肉粽” (Taiwanese Rice Dumplings) and “台湾姜母鸭”(Taiwanese Ginger Duck Soup with Rice Wine).
