When a friend introduced me to Kampong Glam Café, he was hyping up the food like no one’s business and after visiting there myself… I’m on aboard the same train as him. But before that let me give you some insights on the area where Kampong Glam Café is located.
Located on 17 Bussorah St, Singapore 199438. Kampong Glam Cafe is not a glamorous store but rather a very normal looking everyday coffee shop. Though, looks can be very deceiving.
Ever since covid-19 hit, we are unable to meet our neighbours (Malaysia) up north. Being unable to meet our relatives and enjoy Malaysian food for two years, Kampong Glam Café food felt like it brought me to Malaysia with its Malaysian Style cooking. Kampong Glam Café offers a variety of food such as Tahu Goreng, Gado-Gado, Mee Rebus. Western dishes like fish & chips and chicken chop etc are available as well.
Furthermore, the area where the store is located is very rich in culture with narrow lanes full of traditional stores selling carpets, spices, traditional clothing and a wide variety of handicrafts. Hip bars, trendy cafes and restaurants, offering cuisines from the Middle East, Turkey, Japan, Mexico and even Sweden, are aplenty. There’s even The Sultan Mosque within walking distance. You could eat a big lunch and have a nice leisurely walk through the traditional stores and visit all the attractions nearby.
Going back to Kampong Glam Café, I ordered Kway Teow goreng (spicy) with a Milo dinosaur. Affordably priced at $5.50 for the kway teow and $2.50 for the milo dinosaur, it only cost me $8 for a meal in the city. I highly recommend coming here and the best part is that it is open from 8 am to 2 am daily. It may not be the most nifty spot in the area but it’s popular for good reason.
