The Game Awards is one of the best times of the year for gamers. Being extremely hyped for the awards, big companies and indie game developers bring out the big guns by showering the show with world premieres. More than half of the three-hour show consists of new game announcements, game updates, release dates and more!
As well as winning game of the year, It Takes Two was also honored as 2021’s best multiplayer and best family game. Stealing the hearts of the with its cute doll like appearance and unique take on co-operative gameplay, I highly recommend playing this game with a close friend, family or significant other.
It Takes Two
In the game, Cody and May have shrunk. You must solve a series of ingenious puzzle which of course “It Takes Two” players to solve. Fight your way through many incredible puzzles in order to save May and Cody’s marriage which is on the edge of slipping.

Although It Takes Two won game of the year, best family and best multiplayer, we can’t forget the other nominees for the Game of the Year as well. These games will also deliver the absolute best experiences:
Deathloop
Deathloop starts off on an island called Blackreef which goes on a continuous loop at the end of each day. To stop the island from looping itself, Colt, the main protagonist of the story, takes on a mission to fight against time. Thwarting his attempts is Julianna, the antagonist. Deathloop won Best game direction and Best art direction so this is a game that you should check out as well.

Metroid Dread
Metroid Dread Story took 20 whole years to be realized and takes place after the events of Metroid Fusion. Upon receiving a distressing video of an X-Parasite running loose in planet ZDR. Only Samus Aran intergalactic bounty hunter who is immune to the parasite can stop the X-Parasite but it won’t be easy as she is constantly being chased by the terrifying robot EMMI. Metroid Dread Won Best Action/Adventure game and is great for people who love an action-packed storyline.

Psychonauts 2
In Psychonaut 2, play as Raz, a young acrobat that is training to become a Psychonaut. A member of an international task force that uses their psychic abilities to stop those that perform nefarious deeds with their own psychic forces. Psychonauts 2 directly follows the events of the interstitial virtual reality game, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin. The Psychonauts try to learn who was really behind the kidnapping of their leader, unveiling a deeper mystery surrounding the organization’s founding and Raz’s family history. Unfortunately Pyschonaut 2 Didn’t win any awards but I highly recommend you to check it out.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Play as Rachet with his robot pal Clank who are being celebrated as galactic heroes. During a parade in their honor, Clank reveals that he has repaired the Dimensionator, a device capable of opening rifts to other dimensions. As such Ratchet can search for the Lombax race and his missing family. However, Doctor Nefarious suddenly attacks the parade and attempts to steal the Dimensionator. During the struggle however, Ratchet unthinkingly shoots the Dimensionator and causes rifts to appear everywhere.

Resident Evil Village
Play as Ethan Winters who started over with his wife Mia and are finally living in peace and putting the past behind them. However, Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from previous Resident Evil games, suddenly disrupts their life, throwing a devastated Ethan into a new and twisted nightmare in search of answers. Coming across a large village, which he finds recently deserted, what horror awaits? Resident Evil Village won Best performance (Maggie Robertson) and will impress all resident evil fans with its spectacular gameplay.

Overall, all the games here are the best of 2021 and I highly recommend checking all of them out. From the heart-warming It Takes Two to the horror of Resident Evil Village, all these nominees for the Game of the Year are INCREDIBLE. Here’s to the incoming giants that will come in 2022 but for now we can enjoy the best of the best this year.
