Looking for a place to have a picnic with your special someone while helping disadvantaged children? Youth for Causes (YFC) initiative Project Asagao is made up of a team of students from SJI International that will be holding their first charitable light up event at Tanjong Pagar Green on 22nd & 23rd October 2021 known as Night Glory.
In support of Beyond Social Services (BSS), a charity dedicated to empowering children and youths despite adversity, celebrate the individuality and potential of every child at the event as participants can picnic under the stars while learning more about how they can help disadvantaged students.
In collaboration with Lighting Planners Associates, a scaled-down version of the lighting exhibit itself will be available for viewing. All lanterns are decorated with the drawings made by the children at Beyond Social Services, and visitors are welcome to picnic beside, or within the hearts.
The Team – Project Asagao
Hoping to impart positivity to the children of Singapore, especially those who may have faced socio-economic drawbacks, the team at Project Asagao, holds a strong belief that all youth, regardless of background, should be empowered and granted the ability to fulfil their own potential to their maximum ability.
Drawing inspiration from the Asagao flower (Japanese Morning Glory), which represents pureness, overflowing joy and strong bonds, Japanese schools encourage children to grow the flower as their first learning project which parallels the unadulterated blossoming of childhood. Each flower is uniquely beautiful and of a diverse range of colours, similar to the unique personalities of each child.
Beyond Social Services
Officially established in 1979, Beyond helps to nurture a positive environment where youths feel a sense of belonging and has reached out to over 10,000 rental units in government rental blocks in Singapore to provide after-school aid and programmes to help them break out of the poverty cycle.
Through educational and development programmes, on top of linking their caregivers to job and training opportunities, Beyond serves disadvantaged young people and their families to move them beyond their problems.
Team Project Asagao chose to support Beyond, as they wanted to work with youths, to be able to create positive affirmations and experiences to shape their lives especially during their formative years. Seeing the youths grow towards a better and brighter future drives them to continuously build and be a team that really cares.
Picnic Under the Stars
With an incredible light exhibit and banners for you to educate yourselves alongside your friends/family, members of the public are encouraged to bring your own picnic basket and snacks to enjoy a night among the lanterns and join them in celebrating the potential that the youth of Singapore have.
