I grew up watching High School Musical – all three movies. I memorised the songs and even some parts of the script. The storyline is pretty good, you know high school drama, friendships, and relationships. It really speaks for the teenage years we went through. Spoilers ahead for those who have yet to watch the show on Disney+!
I have always wanted a fourth movie for the High School Musical franchise, but it seems like I have to move on from it. That was until High School Musical: The Musical the Series (HSMTMTS) was announced to launch back in November 2019. I was extremely excited for it.
Season 1
HSMTMTS Season 1 starts of showing both Ricky, played by Joshua Bassett and Nini, played by Olivia Rodrigo entering East High as they start the year fresh. It then went on showing their relationship and friendship with the rest of their friends.
Miss Jenn (Kate Reinders) announced that auditions for High School Musical: The Musical will be happening very soon, and both auditioned for it only to find out that they were going to be Troy and Gabriella – but they just broke up.
However, as time went by, they realised that their feelings towards each other were still as strong as before. On the last episode, the cast put on a fantastic show and both of them finally made up with each other and became on of my favourite on-screen couples.
Season 2
Season 2 of this Disney+ series was finally streaming on Disney+, with each episode being released every Friday. I watched the trailer and was pretty excited for it. There were new characters and more drama – I am ready for this.
In the first episode, the talented group of friends celebrated thanksgiving together and sang a medley of songs from High School Musical 2. My ultimate favourite part of that scene is when both Ricky and Nini sang You Are the Music In Me together and I almost cried.
I am very excited to see how this season goes, especially the relationship between Ricky and Nini. I am in love with them. The chemistry they have is amazing!
New Characters
The season is definitely full of surprises as new characters come in. Lily, played by Olivia Rose Keegan and Antoine, played by Andrew Barth Feldman are some of the new characters who would make in appearance in the new season.
In the trailer, we can see that there are some issues between the characters. We get to see the struggles faced by both Ricky and Nini as they meet new people and being apart from each other. I hope Ricky and Nini would be okay though. I am rooting for them!
New Songs
One of my favourite songs in featured in season 2 is Even When/The Best Part, sang by both Olivia and Joshua. It is said to be a written song by both Ricky and Nini for each other on Valentine’s Day. The song is on repeat on my phone – it is so sweet. Apart from that, we can also expect songs from the Beauty and the Beast Musical they are preparing for.
I am extremely excited and am looking forward for every Friday to watch the cast in action. I am all about drama and new songs! Grab some snacks and get comfortable. Binge watch HSMTMTS with your friends and family in Disney+ now!
