On an average weekday when I travel to work and back home only, I clock about 3000 to 4000 steps. When I need to run errands and make side trips, I clock about 5000 to 7000 steps. During weekends, I may not even clock 2000 steps if I have no plans to travel out . I will really need to make a conscious effort to go out and walk 10000 steps a day for the next 30 days, especially on the weekends. You can check out the origins of the 10000 Steps here.
How Am I Planning To Clock My 10k Steps Everyday
If I’m going to be walking somewhere, I might as well make some plans for my 30 days challenge. Other than walking around my estate to hit my daily quota, walking home from office on days, I will also be covering some hiking trails in Singapore. I have already planned a few trails I will like to cover over the next 30 days.
Tracking Steps, Weight & Calories Burnt
I will be using my Garmin smartwatch to track my steps. I will also be weighing myself everyday in the morning first thing when I’m up before any activity so as to have some consistency. Lastly, I will be tracking my daily calories burnt through my smartwatch as well. Nope, I’m not going to count the calories of everything that I put into my mouth. But I will just take a simple reference from Healthhub that the recommended daily calorie intake for an average Singaporean man is about 2200 a day. (0.5kg equates to about 3500 calories) So I am hoping that I can burn anywhere between 2700 to 3000 calories everyday. That will mean 500 to 800 calories burnt in excess of what I need in a day, which makes out to be 3500 – 4000 calories burnt in 7 days in excess. You can do that math, that is potentially 0.5kg lost a week. I can potentially lose about 2kg after this 30 days challenge! I’m not sure if it’s that simple, but fingers crossed.
Food
Just prior to starting this challenge, I was having a relatively light lunch on weekdays. Sometimes I will skip it totally. My 2 main meals of the day are breakfast and dinner for weekdays. For weekends, I will have my usual 3 meals (or more) a day. As to what I eat and drink, I don’t have any special diet plans that I follow. I just take note to have as little sugar and carbs as much as possible. But do give yourself a treat now and then still.
It’s Day One of the challenge today, let’s get it started!
