3 Single Player Games With Fantastic Storylines You Should Check Out

I’ve played a lot of games and all kinds of genres throughout my life, but I always go back to single player games. Reason? Sometimes it’s not just about the gameplay, graphics or soundtrack, but about the story it tells instead. So, today I’ll be sharing some of my personal all-time favourites that I’ve enjoyed so far, spoiler-free of course.

Released in 2017 by platinum games, Nier: Automata is a post-apocalyptic game set in a large post-apocalyptic planet where mankind fled to the moon after a near-mass extinction, leaving behind an army of androids to fight the alien’s more rudimentary but numerous machines. The world design is striking while the enormous sense of scale is mesmerizing.

It’s theme of existentialism really reminds me of Ghost in the Shell (1995) with its “what is it like to be alive/human” vibes and is it the routine that makes us humans? Without giving away spoilers much, Nier: Automata ‘s soundtrack is by far the best that I’ve heard so far.

Storyline Score: 9.5/10

The game runs on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Windows

Ever since its first teaser trailer in 2013, Cyberpunk 2077 fans had to wait for 7 whole years before its release but disappointed millions of players with its in-game bugs and was considered one of the worst games on launch. Throughout 2020 to 2021 however, the game has been receiving multiple updates and has finally become playable.

After sinking in 143 hours on steam, I’ve come to enjoy many memorable moments with Keanu Reeves the actor who played as Johnny Silverhand in the game. Take on the role of V, a mercenary outlaw on the hunt for a one-of-a-kind implant that will grant you immortality. You can modify your character’s cyberware, skillset, and playstyle, as well as explore a large city where your decisions influence the story and the world around you.

Storyline Score: 8.7/10

Some people might disagree on this, but I really enjoyed playing Final Fantasy XV (FFXV) that was released in November 2016. Unlike its predecessor, FFXV takes on an open world of Lucis, and its towering geographic features and sweeping wide-open plains give it’s a rare sense of scale. Its beautiful graphics, gameplay and the overall feel of the games hits me with a nostalgic feeling that no prior gameplay gave me before this.

FFXV’s characters are strangely humanlike, and it really makes you feel like you’ve known them for a long time, like a long-lost friend. There’s a plethora of things you can do like taking photos, going fishing, racing with chocobos, camping and more! The soundtrack is nothing to sleep on as well where the artist Yoko Shimomura did an incredible job and till this date I still frequently tune in to the soundtrack.

Storyline Score: 9.5/10

Runs on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and Windows

So, what kind of games you do enjoy? Personally, I recommend these games to play when you’re free and looking for something to past the time. Many games frequently go on discount on Steam so check out the different options available on there today!
