For all you folks out there who have always wanted to learn how to surf, surfskating is the perfect way to start! 19Dreams’ coaches are certified surf coaches, accredited and supported by two of the most established surf brands in the world. They are also Team Singapore’s National Surfers and have been surfing for over 25 years.
What is SURFSKATING?
Surfskating is a game changer for surfers as it allowed them to train on dryland during off seasons.
As someone who started on the classic skateboard (and failed terribly), I thought that surfskating might be too hard for me, but decided to give it a try anyway. Once the coaches put me on the board, created imaginary waves for me and showed me how to move my whole body and feel the momentum, I fell in love. Surfskate boards are built different. The rides are smooth, it’s stable yet but it’s so flexible and it moves with your body.
In the first lesson, you will be able to get on the board and move even if you were born with two left feet. The more you skate, the more fun you’ll have, the addiction is real. Before you know it, it’s a full body workout, and I can dare say there is no cooler way to do cardio. Wind in your hair, heart pumping, body flowing, it’s an adrenaline infused workout.
19Dreams has created a community that is safe and supportive of everyone joining the sport for the first time, from as young as 7-year-old kids all the way to 72 year old students, everyone is welcome!
I cannot stress enough how important and how much support a hobby group gives during these trying times. It’s a great escape! It’s also extremely satisfying to witness another person squeal with delight at nailing a new trick or movement!
19Dreams have demo boards for people to try out the sport and they also have extensive knowledge of which surfskate board is suitable for you, so hit them up before you whip out your wallet!
19Dreams classes are available every day of the week, except for Thursdays. Do check out their Instagram (@19DreamsSG) for tutorials and content on surfskating right here in Singapore, or, visit their website at www.19dreams.com for more info and to book classes!
